Meet our student entrepreneur of the week:
My names are akinsola victoria simisola,I am currently in my final year studying economics at Babcock university.
What’s the inspiration behind starting a business as a student?
The inspiration behind braided extensions was, I didn’t t like sitting at the salon to make braids because it took forever; but I still wanted the braids anyway; and braided extensions came to rescue me.
How has starting your own business while still in school impacted you, both positive and negative?
Starting my business while in school has been amazing; the most positive facts that I love is I am hardly ever short of cash; most times I don’t even use my allowance, there hasn’t been any negative impacts so far to be honest.
How do you balance school and business?
When I am in school I focus mainly on school and my mom helps me out with business if I am having any problem.
How supportive are your parents?
my mom is so supportive; when I came up with the idea of having braided extensions in 200 level; she was like okay let me know everything you need and how I can fall into place, she is very supportive.
How did you build a customer base when you first started?
Building a customer base was quite hard at first, because everyone kept asking, are you a scam? I know how hard it is buying online and all that, I just didn’t let all of that distract me, the goal is to provide a good wig so I could get a good customer review and post, and I could refer new customers to the reviews also, my friends were also very supportive in building a customer base, they kept referring people, reposting and all.
What advice do you have for upcoming student entrepreneurs?
My advice to any upcoming student entrepreneur is to provide good quality and let the quality speak for itself, also create a perfect balance between school and work.
How has Vasiti helped you as a student entrepreneur?
vasiti has been quite helpful in building my customer base asides instagram.
