In this regard, Nigerians have been advised not to panic and not to engage in self – medication. He urged them to take note of all precautionary measures and protect themselves.
On Thursday, 27th February, 2020, the most populous African country, Nigeria confirmed its first case of Corona virus also known as COVID – 19 in Lagos State.
The patient who is an Italian citizen who works in Nigeria, returned to Lagos on the 25thh of February, 2020. The case was confirmed by the Lagos State Teaching Hospital, Virology Laboratory which is also part of the Nigeria center for disease control.
However, note that other African countries, Egypt and Algeria, have recorded cases of the virus, making Nigeria the third country in Africa and first in West Africa to have a confirmed case of the virus.
In his statement, the minister of health, Dr. Osagie Ehanire has assured Nigerians that the patient is clinically stable with no serious symptoms and also efforts are in place toc identify all those that had contacts with the Italian citizen.
He observed that the government has put in place strong measures to contain the virus, to prevent a general outbreak.
