Movie Review: Annihilation

Written and directed by Alex Garland, Annihilation is a 2018 science fiction horror film based on the novel by Jeff VanderMeer. The film was released in the United States by Paramount Pictures on February 28, 2018, and will be released in other markets on March 12, 2018 by Netflix. The film stars Natalie Portman, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Gina Rodriguez and a host of others. Natalie Portman plays the role of Lena, a biologist and former soldier, Kane’s (Isaac Oscar) wife, Daniel’s (David Gyasi) colleague and former lover, and Katie’s (Sonoya Mizuno) teacher.

The movie follows a group of military scientists who enter “The Shimmer,” a mysterious quarantined zone that is full of mutating landscapes and creatures. This is a movie for the analytical mind having been described as an intellectual and perhaps complicated movie  by David Ellison, a financier at Paramount Pictures.

The film received mostly positive reviews from critics, with praise for its visuals, performances, direction, and thought-provoking story. So, if you are a fan of sci-fi and horror movies, I think looking forward to March 12 won’t be a bad idea after all.
