The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) is meeting with the leadership of the National Assembly; as part of its resistance against the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System.
Few weeks ago, President Muhammadu Buhari, had ordered that all public sector workers must register for the IPPIS; to save cost and fight corruption by blocking leakages in the Federal Government’s salary payment structure.
However, the union had vehemently rejected the President’s directive, saying the IPPIS negated the law on university autonomy.
Furthermore, the Accountant-General of the Federation, Alhaji Ahmed Idris; faulted #ASUU, saying that the union’s position was an open endorsement of corruption.
Also, the Minister of Finance, Budget and National Planning, Mrs Zainab Ahmed; had on Thursday said no government agency must resist the payment system.
This spells an impending doom of strike if an agreement is not reached by both parties; and of course, #ASUU is trending on twitter; and students are getting jittery:
