Osun state college of education was thrown into a state of confusion on Wednesday as six staff of the school were kidnapped while another staff was killed by the unknown gunmen who carried out the attack by blocking the Esa-Oke Road (a road leading to the college campus),
According to reports, the gunmen stopped several vehicles including the victims’ vehicles and abducted them.
But an attempt by one of the members of staff to escape the scene was futile as the gunmen killed the staff in the process. The deceased was identified as Olaniyi Emmanuel Temitope, a registry staff.
According to the school’s PRO, the kidnapped staffs were; Olaleye Olalekan, Adeyeoluwa Bankole, Jesuola Ajibola , Adenreti Chukwu and Rachael Onyinocha Akinboboye.
Also, the School’s Students Union President, Adekunle Adeleke, claimed that two students were initially abducted but managed to escape the kidnappers.
In a report by premium times, the students were reported to have identified their abductors as Fulani Herdsmen.
According to NAN, this is the second time this year gunmen would kidnap people while on transit in the state.
In June, a Methodist priest and two elders of the church were kidnapped on Iwo-Osogbo Road, while returning to Osogbo from Ile-Ogbo after a church meeting.
Moreover, it seems there has been an increased number of abduction in the University community as a lecturer at the Veritas University, Bwari, Abuja, was reportedly kidnapped by gunmen who raided the institution on Monday, May 7, around 12 am.
Another kidnapping incident happened at the Magumeri and Damboa road, near Maiduguri, Borno state where three lecturers from the University of Maiduguri were abducted by members of the terrorist group, Boko Haram.
Their release was said to have followed a series of negotiations as directed by President Muhammadu Buhari.
